Savages practice bomb run on Air France plane

The suspected bomb

An Air France flight from Mauritius diverted and made an emergency landing at Kenya’s port city of Mombasa after the suspicious device was found in a toilet, Kenya’s head of police and the airline said today.

The CEO of Air France confirmed this afternoon that the device that forced diversion of Flight 463 to Kenya was a “false alarm” despite an earlier confirmation from the Kenyan Airports Authorities that a bomb had been found. understands Air France is in talks with the French prosecutor to open an investigation into the incident.

Six passengers were questioned after the device was found a Kenyan police official said.

Frederic Gagey, the head of the airline, said the device was made of cardboard, paper and a household timer.

In a news conference in Paris, Gagey congratulated the crew for their cool-headed reaction to divert the plane.

He said: “This object did not contain explosives.”

Gagey said a safety check was carried out in the bathroom before the flight. He says passengers are checked, and sometimes double-checked on flights, and denied any security failure in the flight Sunday.

The police official, who is part of the investigation and who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said during the flight to Paris a passenger noticed something in one of the plane’s lavatories that looked like “a stopwatch mounted on a box.”

The passenger reported the suspicious device to the cabin crew and pilots requested an emergency landing.

The passenger reported the device to the cabin crew, who informed the pilots, leading to an emergency landing at the airport in the Kenyan city of Mombasa.

Police interrogated the man who reported the package to the pilot.

A Kenyan Airports Authorities spokesman said: “The Boeing 777 plane with 473 passengers on board was diverted to Mombasa where it was immediately cleared by Kenyan airport authorities to land on emergency at 003 hours.

“Bomb experts from the Kenya Navy took the bomb away to safety.

“All the 473 passengers have been screened at the airport lounge and taken to safety in hotels where they are also receiving care and counseling.”

A Kenyan Airports Authorities spokesman added: “The Mombasa Security team and Airport security in Mombasa have also secured the Airport and all critical facilities around.

“The bomb has been taken to safe destination for detonation in the morning.”

The plane was forced to make an emergency landing after an alarm was raised on board.

Police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet said that the Boeing 777 aircraft headed to Paris with 459 passengers and 14 crew, was safely evacuated after it landed at Moi International Airport at 12:37 a.m. on Sunday (2137 GMT Saturday).

Passengers used emergency slides to get off of the plane.
